These shelves are basically what I wanted, they just don't look as I expected. They must be painted because stain is very uneven and looks NOTHING like in the pictures. See pictures 1 and 2 (2 of the shelves). When it said mahogany, I expected something like picture #3.The workmanship is ok, but they are made from plywood which is quite obvious as the edges show each ply. See picture 4. While the front lip looked smooth in the above pictures, I should have zoomed in, as every nail hole is actually visible and not even filled. I thought these looked like floating shelves, but are simply holes in the back that you put screws through. They will be covered by what I put on the shelf. I plan to fill the nail holes and paint them myself. Basically I think a high school shop teacher would have his students fill nail holes and do a better job of staining. And for the price, I think a better wood could have been used, or at least the plywood edges could have been finished with a veneer. Sorry, it wouldn't let me add pictures 3 and 4. It was well packed for shipping.
We are glad she is ok with her product. The customer never contacted us with her issues. She came straight to our reviews and left this. We take a lot of pride in our reviews and do wish she had contacted us first so we could clear up a few of her misunderstandings. We will always respond to concerns in a quick and friendly manner :-)
We definitely need to address her concerns.
First and foremost our advice is to read the listing. Next, look over the FAQ page. If you still have questions, just ask!
We aren't sure why she thought she purchased mahogany or where that comes into play as the color she ordered and received was DARK WALNUT. Mahogany isn't even an option in our drop down menu.
The shelves are not poorly stained. If she had read our FAQ page as we requested she would see what Baltic Birch looks like when it is stained. It has swirls and texture. We know how to stain.
We also mention what kind of wood is used...on the FAQ page. We link to the FAQ page in each listing so it only takes one click to get the info needed.
The layers of wood are visible in our pictures and the nail holes in the front are also visible. They are intentionally photographed so you know what you are getting. See our pics for yourself :-)
We are sorry she misunderstood what she was purchasing and thought these were "floating shelves". They are gallery shelves and you can see there is a back, a ledge and a lip. No mention was made of floating shelves in our listing. They also do not look like floating shelves and the screw is necessary to attach the shelf to the wall.
It is called edge banding...and we do not do edge banding. No where in this listing do we claim to edge band (what the customer is calling veneer).
We do our best to give an accurate presentation of the product. We list all of this important information in the listing and continue it on the FAQ page. We make it all available if only one will read it.
Overall, she will be able to use the shelves and she was appreciative of the packing. We do wish she had a better shopping experience but we can't help if we don't know.
Please see our hundreds of 5 star reviews and many, many of them are on our shelves on both of our sites. There are also great customer photos!
